Appointed in 2009, Dr Moya Carey is the Iran Heritage Foundation Curator for the Iranian Collections, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She earned her B.A. in History of Art and English at Trinity College Dublin, and in 2001 completed her doctorate in Islamic art history at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London). Her recent published research has addressed Qajar Iran, and the V&A’s Middle Eastern collecting activities in the late nineteenth century, whether commercial, aesthetic or imperialist in scope. During that period, the South Kensington Museum (re-named the V&A in 1899) was an institutional partner to the Dublin Museum – today the National Museum of Ireland – and shared many aspects of collecting policy as well as an industrial design-oriented mission.
