Joe Hogan

Basket Maker

Joe Hogan was initially attracted to basketmaking because he wanted to grow his own willow, the raw material for most of his baskets. This allows him to live rurally and to be involved in the entire process from growing through to making. He now devotes much of his time to making artistic baskets which he hopes may deepen our appreciation of the natural world.

He has written ‘Basketmaking in Ireland’ (2001), which explores the Irish basket tradition and more recently ‘Bare Branches, Blue Black Sky’(2011), which focuses on his own artistic work.
