A conference exploring the expression of collective and national identities in Ireland, through the lens of design and craft.

Taking place on 4–5 November 2016, at the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History, Collins Barracks, this event is part of the 2016 centenary programme and a partnership project between the National Museum of Ireland and the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland.

To mark the decade of centenaries in Ireland in 2016, Mise Éire? Shaping a Nation through Design has invited leading design historians, practitioners and academics to explore notions of national identities. From the historical perspective of 1916, to contemporary practice, it aims to initiate dialogue and question the impact of global influences as well as the role cultural diversity and technology plays in shaping identities – now and into the future. In addition the conference will investigate the role that museums and the state have played in interpreting and shaping this overall narrative.
